Morrissey "Interesting Drug" video

SCHOOL FOR SCANDAL!

MORRISSEY’S ‘DRUG’ CRAZED VIDEO

AS OSCAR Wilde himself once said - Jesus bleedin’ Christ!!! The video for Morrissey’s new ‘Interesting Drug’ smasheroo - which, depending on the outcome of the confusion currently surrounding it in the EMI offices (see News story, page three) may or may not be dominating a screen near you soon - is extraordinary. Not extraordinary brilliant, or extraordinary crap, just extraordinary...

The epic, made (like previous Mozterpieces) by Tim Broad, starts with a standard concert shot of the great man and ends with scenes of fluffy bunnies; so far, so ordinary. Except that the intervening three minutes are filled with (take a deep breath and a sedative for your Disbelief Glands!); a school named after a member of the Carry On team; the ‘Coronation Street’ rooftops; Diana Dors on the cover of NME; all the books ever written about whales; toilet graffiti (highly literate, natch); a raven-haired temptress who, but for a few extra goes on the old footpump, could easily have passed for top ‘political researcher’ and ‘escort’ Pamella Bordes; a bicycle of the so-called ‘Chopper’ variety; adverts for would-be prostitutes; a distant relative of Emily Pankhurst; battered baby seals; an outdoor Acid House disco which is gate-crashed and ruined by party-pooper Morrissey distributing animal rights leaflets; and a Bunny Girl leading a raid on Cleaver Brothers (Animal Experimentation Bastards) Ltd to liberate the aforementioned Equity rabbits!!!

And, amid all this excitement - it nearly slipped my mind - the whole thing is punctuated by shots of rather hunky young schoolboys whose commendably formal uniforms are augmented by six-inch-high-heel shoes!

Unless the title of ‘Interesting Drug’ is suddenly changed to ‘All The People Who Kill The Lovely Furry Animals To Make Pencil Cases Are Total And Utter Wankstains’, it’s hard to see what all this has to do with the (very jangly) single. It honestly hardly seems to matter. Whip out your ‘Street Is Murder’ promotional quill now, dash off a series of letters to EMI and all the TV companies, and demand to see it today. . .
