FAC 227

AND THAT’S A FAC(T)

Yes, it’s official! FRED FACT has itself now become something for Factory buffs to cherish. For this very chip-wrapping you are holding has been allocated the number FAC 227 in the Factory catalogue and is, therefore, instantly collectable, ranking alongside Factory’s 10th Agnniversary calendar (FAC 240), Factory Sellotape (FAC 136) and the NEW ORDER Manual Video Flickbook (FAC 235) as an item to be desired and far easier to store than either TONY WILSON’S flats (FAC 101) or The Hacienda, Manchester (FAC 51). Hang on to this page. It will shortly acquire a value far exceeding the fee you paid for this edition of the best rock paper in the world and then continue to soar. So don’t ditch it - ever! In case you need further proof here's Tony Wilson’s letter of authorization:

A FACTUAL ERROR

The FACTORY discography made an amusing read but I’m sure you’re aware by now that you missed out numbers FAC 152-175. Is there any chance of you printing the missing numbers?

Roger Ginty, Stoke on Trent, Staffs

Er.. .sorry about that! One sheet of entries obviously went astray somewhere in the wash. Anyway, the missing numbers are: (see image)

FACT TEN

I like VINI REILLY’S guitar playing a lot. So could you ask him for a list of his all-time favourite records?

J Dexter, London SW6.

Vini, as you might imagine, has all-encompassing taste when it comes to record collecting. However, prompted to come up with an all-time Top Ten, he decided on the following:

1 'Interesting Drug’
                    Morrissey (Pariophone)

2 ‘Black Dog' LP track
                    Led Zeppelin (Atlantic)

3 ‘The Little Big Band' CD
                    Rob Gray (Factory)

4 ‘4th Symphony' Charles Ives

5 ‘There's A Riot Going On' LP
Sly And The Family Stone (Epic)

6 ‘Ram' LP
                    Paul McCartney (Pariophone)

7 The White Album' LP
                    The Beatles (Pariophone)

8 ‘Maria Elena'
                    Los Indios Tabajaras (RCA)

9 ‘In The Depths Of The Temple
a duet from ‘The Pearl Fishers by Bizet

10 'Then Play On' LP
                    Fleetwood Mac (Reprise)

FACTORY OUTLETS

I have really appreciated the Factory catalogue you’ve been publishing in NME. But I wondered if you could supply some addresses where I can find some of the records listed. Do you know of some shop or private collector who can help me?

Maurizio Ugcello, Messina, Italy

Concerning the Factory listings you’ve been featuring in your section of the paper - we like to think of ourselves as the foremost suppliers of Factory records and memorabilia in the country and we also distribute all FAC stuff worldwide.

We currently offer a detailed discography for the ridiculously low price of 30p (plus a SAE), provide mail out of Factory goodies and even offer a search facility to help Factory fans. If we can’t supply it, I doubt if anybody can. We were therefore wondering if you could possibly advise your Factory list readers.

Mark at The Record Peddler, 20A Swan Street, Manchester M4 5JW (phone 061-834 3437).

Again, I've taken the easy option by letting one letter answer another. Certainly the Record Peddler service seems one to keep in mind and I've already taken advantage of it by enrolling Mark to supply the Factory Benelux listing printed on this week's page.

A FEW FACTS

FAC 137 was Shorts, a commercially available video, FACT 137 was the QUANDO QUANGO 12". A Factory cock-up perhaps? By the way, I’ve got a copy of FAC 85 by THICK PIGEON - it was commercially available.

Mark H, Stapleford, Nottingham

FAC 11 was released but deleted soon afterwards. FAC 103-7 ‘Thieves Like Us’ 7" wasn’t mentioned, neither was FAC-7 ‘Blue Monday ’88’. FAC 10 should have read FACT 10.

Alan Gregson, Bury.

The Feverhouse FACT 105 video film (also on Beta) was not directed by BITING TONGUES (who only wrote the soundtrack) but by HOWARD WARMSLEY, and starred GRAHAM MASSEY, JOANNE HILL and PATRICK NYLAND.

Frank Brinkhuis, Heiloo, The Netherlands

These letters are just an abbreviated sample selection from the vast postbag I received regarding the Factory discography. It would be impossible to print them all or the points they raise.

All I can do, therefore, is to thank everyone who wrote in (ail letters will be added to my Factory info file) and offer the full text of Frank Brinkhuis' letter (four-and-a-half close-typed pages filled with detailed Factory info) to anyone sending in the obligatory SAE.
