New Order "The Perfect Kiss" Reviews
NEW ORDER 'The Perfect Kiss' (Factory) Culled from the new album, this sees the manic depressives' favourite low-life survivors getting ever more wistfully nightclubby. Heck, they even sing about going out and having "some fun"! And they make jokes about playing with their "pleasure zone"! Don't fret, though, that trademark bass jangle is still there, as are the haunting, ethereal spaces in the music. What did ya think this was, a revolution?!?
NEW ORDER: The Perfect Kiss
(Factory)
Underestimating New Order 45s is a dangerous business. On its release I could take ‘Thieves Like Us’ or leave it; within six weeks, a day passing without hearing it would’ve led to my hospitalisation! It’s with great reluctance then that I have to tell you that this newie - off the LP - does not sound like a great record. Lying somewhere between ‘Thieves’ and ‘Blue Monday’, but lacking the high tech whimsy of the former or the blinkered ferocity of the latter, it's just another new order on the electro chaos. I stand prepared to be proved humiliatingly wrong by the test of time but - whisper it - I don’t think it’ll happen.
